Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 and iPhone

Those who know me know that I love my iPhone. Having owned many PDA’s over the years, I think it is the best thing on the market. One of the downsides however, unlike my old Windows Mobile devices, is that I couldn’t access our Microsoft Dynamics installation.

However, I recently discovered a new product called Bridge2CRM. An entirely SAAS offering, it works with both OnPremise and Hosted variants of Microsoft Dynamics 4.0 and fits the iPhone interface very well indeed. All for less than £10.00 ($9.95) per month per user.

Its early days, but so far I am very impressed.

Business broadband that won’t let you down ….

 clip_image002

During the past 9 months, we have become increasingly frustrated by the poor service and appalling levels of technical support offered by the broadband providers we typically deal with on your behalf.

Most of us rely more heavily on our broadband than we would ever thought possible just a few years ago. Email and internet have become some of the most important tools at our disposal. It is essential therefore that we have a broadband provider whose network is as reliable as it can be, and backs that up with excellent technical support in the event of a failure.

Introducing ZEN Internet

ZEN Internet has consistently won awards and accolades from IT professionals and consumer organizations alike for their:

· Quality of service

· Network reliability

· Technical support

These were the primary considerations when making our choice. Happily they are also competitively priced in comparison with other business class providers.

Through this partnership, we can now offer the following:

· Business class broadband

· SDSL and lease Lines

· Domains and Web Hosting

For more information regarding ZEN Internet, contact us now on 0800 043 9186 to discuss your requirements.

This article explains how to quickly create an Exchange ActiveSync account on your iPhone or iPod touch.

Products Affected : iPhone, iPod touch, iPhone 3G, iPod touch (2nd generation)

1. To add an Exchange account to your iPhone or iPod touch, tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then Add Account, then Microsoft Exchange. Note, you can configure only one Exchange account per device..

2. On the next screen, enter your complete email address, domain, username, password, and a description (which may be anything you like). Ask your Exchange server administrator if you are unsure of the domain. If you are unable to view your folder list, or unable to send or receive email, leave the domain field blank.

3.

4. Your iPhone (or iPod touch) will now try to locate your Exchange server using Microsoft’s Autodiscovery service. If the server cannot be located, the screen below is shown. Enter your front-end Exchange server’s complete address in the Server field. Contact your Exchange server administrator if you are unsure of the address.
5. Ensure you enter the server name per the SSL server certification if using SSL

image

5. Your iPhone or iPod touch will try to create a secure (SSL) connection to your Exchange server. If it cannot do this, it will try a non-SSL connection. To override the SSL setting, go into Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select your Exchange account, tap Account Info, then toggle the Use SSL slider.

After successfully making a connection to the Exchange server, you may be prompted to change your device passcode to match whatever policies may have been set on your server.
6. Choose which type(s) of data you would like to synchronize: Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. Note that by default, only 3 days’ worth of email is synchronized. To synchronize more, go into Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select your Exchange account, and tap on Mail days to sync.
Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is overwritten. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services.

Facebook Phishing Scam

Source : © Trend Micro Nov 2009

We are receiving email messages that supposedly came from Facebook. It asks recipients to update their login credentials for security purposes. It then instructs them to click the URL provided in the email message. When the user clicks the URL, it points them to a spoofed Facebook website where they are required to input their password only as their email address has been automatically filled up.

Click

Once the users hit the ‘Login’ button, it will redirect them to another fraudulent page where a link to download a suspicious update tool file is provided. Trend Micro detects this as TROJ_ZBOT.CDX.

As of this writing, the phishing URL as well as the malicious file has been blocked and detected already via the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network.

This is a great example showing just how cunning cybercriminals can be just to steal precious information. They even claimed to offer recipients security, which is really ironic. Not everyone though may be as hard to fool as, say, security experts. So how can you tell if your personal information is being phished? Here are some useful tips:

§ Check the email’s content. Misspellings and grammatical mistakes are very common in spammed messages.

§ Do not click embedded links. If you need to update your login credentials, go to the site’s homepage and log in from there.

§ Check the URL in the message body. A legitimate Facebook link will not continue beyond .com as in the two bogus email messages.

§ Check the time stamps. Facebook has millions of users worldwide so it really is very unlikely that the site’s administrator will send out email messages to all users within the same day.

§ Check the sender’s email address. A legitimate Facebook email sender will have a facebook.com and not a facebookmail.com address.

Don’t be just another victim. Keep in mind that cybercriminals will do just about anything to fool those who let their guards down.

FREE AND EFFECTIVE ANTIVIRUS FOR HOME USE

It is rare to get anything for free these days which is of any value, but Microsoft’s Security Essentials is getting good reviews from independent sources for protection against viruses and spyware. While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of commercial offerings, it scores well for detection and cleaning which after all; is all we are looking for.

It can be downloaded direct from Microsoft here

Fake IT Support Emails Continue

Source : Trend Micro – 16th October 2009

http://blog.trendmicro.com/zbot-spam-campaign-continues/

A slightly modified Zbot spam campaign currently making rounds pretend to come from the IT support of various companies. It informs users that a security update in the mailing service caused changes in their mailbox settings. They are instructed to open the ZIP attachment and run the .EXE file, INSTALL.EXE to supposedly apply the changes. Trend Micro detects this as TROJ_FAKEREAN.CF.

When executed, this Trojan accesses http://{BLOCKED}nerkadosa.com/xIw1yPD0q5Gb8t0br4×6k5sk to download another malicious file detected as TROJ_FAKEREAN.BI.

Spammers usually employed random email address in the FROM and TO field headers but in this case, the actual company domain is used as email addresses in both fields. This is done to make the email message more credible, and convincingly coming internally from the company, thus luring unknowing users into executing the malware.

This attack is a follow-up on the phishing email we blogged earlier this week. The said email purports as a notification from the company’s “system administrator” to update the user’s system because of a server upgrade. Accordingly, the subdomains are tailor-made to make it more legitimate.

Users are encouraged not to open suspicious-looking emails even though it supposedly came from a trusted source. It is also advisable that users contact first their IT or tech support in case they received such emails to verify if indeed a security update had occurred. Trend Micro protects users from this attack with its Trend Micro Smart Protection Network that blocks and detects the said malicious file.

Deliver Outstanding Customer Service Using Customer Manager

I once heard said that 60% of lost business is through “perceived indifference” on the part of the vendor. I have never been able to verify this figure, but looking back on my own dealings with various companies, I can well believe it. Hours spent listening to a recorded voice assuming me how valuable my call is. Promised calls not returned and quotes that take days or weeks to arrive, usually after numerous calls to chase. I have walked away from numerous vendors, because what makes them looks bad reflects on your dealings with your own clients. “Sorry, but I am still waiting for the information” only washes for so long.

This invaluable insight came my way at around the time that Sentinel Business IT was born. Until that point, all the planning and conversation was around winning new business, but little about managing the client once they came on board. It was therefore decided early on that we would not use voicemail, preferring instead to ensure that the phone would always be answered by a human being, even if that was an answering service. We also set ourselves the objective of always returning a call or providing information when promised and ensuring effective communication with the customer, even if it was just to say that we were still waiting for the information requested; often it is the silence that infuriates. Finally and crucially, in a world where the concept of “customer service” seems to reach no further than the mission statement, we needed to deliver truly outstanding responsiveness and service.
